Attendees at the IGH Symposium in March 2005
Rural Maternity New Emerging Team and the British Columbia Reproductive Care Program
Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and British Columbia Reproductive Care Program
On Friday March 18th, 2005 twenty two representatives of rural communities in British Columbia came together in Vancouver for the Sustainable Rural Maternity Care: Moving Forward with a Research Agenda symposium.
The goal of the symposium was to bring together community-based and practitioner-collaborators with academic-based researchers to develop and foster a transdisciplinary and trans-professional collaborative research advisory group. Specific objectives included:
- presenting results from previous rural maternity care research to determine verisimilitude and relevance to their communities, experiences and practice;
- outlining implications of the research for further practice;
- determining appropriate venues and methods of dissemination of research; and
- articulating future priorities for and approach to further research that may be undertaken through the community partnerships and within the auspices of the New Emerging Team grant.
It is anticipated that a draft discussion document outlining priorities for rural maternity care research will emerge from the discussion which will be circulated among both participants and key contacts in other communities for comments. As a community-responsive agenda, this document will be crucial in contributing to the agenda of the New Emerging Team activities and will guide the activities and direction of the New Emerging Team initiative.
